Garden Grove High’s football team remained unbeaten after the second round of CIF Southern Division playoffs, and is headed for a semifinal showdown next Saturday at Norwalk High.
The Argonauts (12-0) are the sole local survivor of the quarterfinal games played on Friday.
Grove defeated Beckman 38-21, and was led (as usual) by Sean Young, who ran for two scores and passed for two more. He finished with 147 yards on the ground and 121 in the air.
In another Southern Division clash, Santiago (9-3) lost 40-0 to La Mirada 40-0. The Cavaliers were crippled by the loss of seven players due to academic ineligibility.
Also in the Southern, Westminster (7-5) lost 64-21 to Norwalk. Oscar Beltran ran for 212 yards and two scores.
Pacifica (6-5-1) finished its run in the Southwest Division, losing 45-6 to Trabuco Hills. The lone Mariner score came from Luther Tolbert, who rushed for 82 yards and got the Pacifica TD on a 16-yard run in the fourth quarter.
