The changing of the guard at Stanton City Hall took place quietly and quickly Tuesday night.
Ed Royce, Sr., was named the new mayor of the city, with Brian Donahue chosen to be mayor pro tem. Royce is replacing Al Ethans, who has served as mayor several times.
“It’s going to be a hard act to follow,” said Royce of Ethans’ term in office.
The position of mayor in Stanton is typically rotated among council members. Royce and Donahue will also serve as chair and vice chair of the Stanton Redevelopment Agency.
“If only the state and federal governments could transfer power this efficiently,” remarked Councilman David Shawver.
On hand to lend congratulations and extend an offer to worth with the new mayor was state Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana).

Way to go Ed!
