Seventeen people were arrested for drunk driving at two DUI checkpoints conducted by the Garden Grove Police Department on Dec. 18-19.
According to Lt. Travis Whitman, the checkpoints were among four conducted by the GGPD in December.
A fifth planned DUI chdckpoint was cancelled because of the rain.
Friday’s checkpoint was on Valley View Street south of Lampson Avenue; on Saturday the scene shifted to Westminster Avenue east of Magnolia Street.
In addition to the 27 arrests, 38 vehicles were impounded not only from those arrested for DUI, but also from those found to be driving without valid drivers’ licenses.
Over the four checkpoints, 28 drunk driving arrests were made and 113 vehicles impounded from impaired or unlicensed drivers, said police.
The checkpoints were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Members of the general public are encouraged to call “911” to report drunk drivers, according to Garden Grove police
