The City of Garden Grove’s Emergency Operations Center has been activated due to weather forecasts predicting heavy rainstorms. The City is taking precautions for potential flooding, particularly on the west side area, where flood control channels are located.
Public Works crews will be monitoring the channels for the possibility of overflow into neighboring homes. In the event residents are directed to evacuate, emergency shelter will be available at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, located at 11300 Stanford Avenue.
“We are asking our residents to take precautions including sandbagging patios or doors to keep flood waters out,” says Community Services Director Kim Huy Wednesday afternoon.
Sandbags are available 24 hours a day at three Garden Grove Fire stations on a first-come, first served basis. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels. The locations are:
• Fire Station #2, 11805 Gilbert St.
• Fire Station #3, 12132 Trask Ave.
• Fire Station #4, 12191 Valley View St.
Residents are also urged to monitor TV news broadcasts for the latest weather updates. For more information, visit the City’s website at www.garden-grove.ca.us or call (714) 741-5270. To hear emergency information messages for Garden Grovethrough Alert OC, call (714) 518-4936.
