The Mariners hit the road Friday night but the Centurions did the running.
The Pacifica boys basketball team lost 76-59 at Cypress Friday night.
Thanks to a 20-3 run, Cypress outscored Pacifica by 15 in the second quarter and by seven in the third to take a 20- point lead into the fourth. The Mariners pulled within 13 midway through the period but couldn’t get closer. The Mariners led 18-16 after one quarter.
The loss dropped the M’s to 3-1 and out of a tie for first place in the Empire League.
Also Friday night, in the Garden Grove League, Santiago remained unbeaten, defeating La Quinta 68-51, while Garden Grove crushed Los Amigos 76-23 and Rancho Alamitos bounced Bolsa Grande 60-39.
In boys Orange League play, Western beat Santa Ana Valley 67-47 and Magnolia ran away from Anaheim 47-31. In the Golden West League, Westminster edged Orange 47-45.
On the girls side, in the GGL, Garden Grove remained on top with a close 38-36 win over Los Amigos, which Rancho remained a game behind thanks to a 56-45 win over Bolsa Grande. La Quinta turned back Santiago 60-52.
