Pacifica defeated Valencia in an Empire League boys basketball game Friday night that knocked the Tigers out of a tie for first place.
The Mariners, led by Chasen Conner’s 20 points, improved their record to 6-4 in league and 15-10 overall with the 61-43 win. The M’s blew the game open with a 19-7 edge in the second quarter that put them ahead 31-13 at the half.
Pacifica finishes in third place in the EL and will begin play in the CIF Southern Section playoffs next week.
In girls soccer action Friday, Pacifica played to a 1-1 tie with Cypress. The tie gave the Mariners their 12th Empire League title in 13 years. The M’s finished the season 8-1-1 in league, 16-8-2.
