Extradition proceedings are underway in the case of a 32-year-old man from El Cajon that Westminster police believe fatally shot a woman and gravely wounded a man before fleeing to Nevada.
According to Officer Van Woodson of the Westminster Police Department, Pasqual Raul Loera of El Cajon was arrested late Sunday in the death of Julie Palasco, 48, and the wounding of Dennis Koire, 49.
Loera is in the custody of Westminster police who traveled to Nevada and is awaiting extradition to California.
The Orange County District Attorney Tuesday charged Loera, a deserter from the U.S. Army, with murder with special circumstances. It’s believed he went to the Westminster home in response to to an ad offering a black Infiniti for sale. The DA alleges that Loera shot the couple and took the car.
WPD detectives went to Nevada after the suspect called attention to himself and was arrested. Police say that Loera was in a casino in State Line “acting suspiciously” and fled when security guards sought to question him.
He drove away in the car which crashed after a short chase by Las Vegas Metro Police. Officers discovered that Loera had a gunshot wound in his leg. The automobile’s registration indicated an address in the 5300 block of Duncannon Avenue in Westminster.
WPD officers sent to that location found the body of Palasco, and Koire, who was hospitalized from gunshot wounds. Koire was listed in grave condition.
The suspect will likely face charges of murder and attempted murder, police indicated.
