GG man arrested for cultivation of marijuana

Maybe it’s not always a good idea to call the police.

A suspect was arrested in the aftermath of a home invasion robbery this week in Garden Grove, but it wasn’t one of the intruders.

According to Garden Grove police, Dennis Edgar Chailland, 62, of Garden Grove was arrested Thursday afternoon for cultivation of marijuana.

He had been one of the people at the home in the 12800 block of Magnolia Street on Wednesday night when suspects barged in, tied up and questioned the occupants.

The invaders demanded money, but also want to know, according to Lt. Jeff Nightengale, “where the drugs were located.”

Police say there were over 60 marijuana plans in differing states of growth on the property, and the suspects were removing the plans when they realized one of their captives escaped.

The suspects left just before police arrived, getting away with a wallet (containing cash), a laptop computer and an iPod music player.

Police arrested Chailland and booked him into Orange County Jail in Santa Ana.
