Boy, 7, hit by truck, in critical condition

A 7-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was struck by a truck while riding his bicycle along a street in Garden Grove Sunday afternoon.

According to Lt. Travis Whitman of the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident was reported at 5:46 p.m. at the intersection of El Prado Avenue and Lewis Street in the eastern part of the city.

The cyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, rode into the path of the Ford F-150 pickup truck, police believe. After the collision, the bike was dragged a short distance.

The child was taken to a trauma center at an area hospital. Drugs or alcohol don’t appear to be a factor in the accident, according to Lt. Whitman.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call Investigator Jason Perkins at (714) 741-5823 or Officer Adam Zmija at (714) 741-5847.
