Mix together overlapping spring breaks and a bit of rain and you have the on-again off-again high school baseball and softball races in the Garden Grove-Stanton-Westminster area.
On Tuesday, La Quinta remained atop the Garden Grove League baseball standings with a 6-1 win over Los Amigos, while second-place Rancho Alamitos outslugged Santiago 9-6.
In softball Tuesday, La Quinta edged Garden Grove 4-3 to move into first place in the GGL, and Rancho Alamitos hammered Los Amigo 16-0.
On Saturday, in non-league baseball, Rancho Alamitos swept a double-header from Costa Mesa 6-5 and 16-10.
Friday’s action in baseball saw Magnolia fall to Anaheim 3-1 in Orange League play, and Western overpowered Santa Ana Valley 19-2.
In the Golden West League, Westminster upended first place Ocean View 11-7, while Orange stayed in the race with a 8-0 win over Santa Ana.
Softball play on Friday had Orange defeat Saddleback 11-4 and Westminster blank Santa Ana 3-0.
Last Thursday (April 15) in area prep softball, Western defeated Anaheim 13-0 and Magnolia ran away from Century 23-0.
