Elderly man struck, killed in GG crosswalk

An elderly man was killed when struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Garden Grove Wednesday afternoon, say police.

The man was walking in a marked crosswalk on Ward Street, south of Ballast Avenue at around 4 p.m. when the incident occurred.

After one vehicle yielded to him, a second proceeded and struck the man. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and provided a statement to investigators.

There was no identification on the victim, and he has yet to be identified. The name of the man will be released once his identity has been established and his next of kin notified.

Neither drugs or alcohol appear to be involved in the collision, according to Lt. Travis Whitman. No citations were issued at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to call Investigator Jason Perkins at (714) 741-5823.
