Gang unit investigators are looking in the shooting Friday afternoon of a 17-year-old youth in Garden Grove.
According to Lt. Scott Watson of the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident took place at 2:08 p.m. in the 10800 block of Palma Vista.
Police were summoned to the area on reports of a person down in front of an apartment complex. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and surgery for his wound, which did not appear to be life-threatening.
According to Lt. Watson, the victim is a local gang member who was standing in front of the complex when he was approached by a man on foot. The suspect fired at least two shots from a handgun at the victim.
The suspect fled eastbound from the incident. It’s unknown whether there was an argument or verbal confrontation that preceded the shooting.
The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, 18 to 22 years old, wearing a black sweatshirt and black shorts.
According to Lt. Watson, the victims and other present were uncooperative, so the motive for the shooting. The GGPD’s Gang Suppression Unit is conducting the investigation.
