Man, 76, in critical condition after being hit by car in GG

A 76-year-old man is in critical but stable condition after he was struck by a car while crossing a street in Garden Grove Monday night, police have reported.

According to Lt. Travis Whitman of the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident took place at 10:13 p.m. near the intersection of Haster Street and Chapman Avenue.

A pedestrian, identified as Ricardo Colacion of Mexico, was struck by a car traveling eastbound on Chapman, east of Haster. He suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Colacion had been visiting from Mexico; local family members were notified.

The driver of the vehicle, Angelica Gomez, 19, of Anaheim, said she suddenly saw Colacion crossing the street in front of her and was unable to avoid striking him. He was not in a crosswalk.

Chapman Avenue was closed for about three hours during the investigation.
