Mariners have new, old on 2010 grid schedule

Pacifica’s 2010 varsity football schedule has been announced, and it includes something new and something old.

The Mariners will play a non-league game against former Garden Grove League rival Garden Grove on Sept. 24 at the Argo stadium, continuing a series that dates back to 1966.

On the other hand, the M’s will visit Yorba Linda High School on Nov. 4. YLHS is a new school fielding its first varsity team.

The season will start on Sept. 3 hosting Murrieta Valley at Bolsa Grande Stadium. On Sept. 10 the M’s will host El Dorado at BGHS.

The first road game of the season will be at Whittier in a game to be played on Sept. 16 at California High.

Empire League play stays on Sept. 30 against Tustin at the Tillers’ field. It’s Tustin’s first year in the league.

The Mariners will then have three straight home contests, all at Bolsa. The M’s will face Kennedy on Oct. 9, Valencia on Oct. 21 and Western (also new in the EL) on Oct. 29.

Then they’ll travel to Yorba Linda on Nov. 4 and finish the regular season on Nov. 12 against Cypress High at Western’s Handel Field.
