Tagging fight leads to shooting in GG

A clash between two graffiti “tagging” groups in Garden Grove Friday night resulted in a brawl that put a person in the hospital with a gunshot wound, police report.

According to Lt. Scott Watson of the Garden Grove Police Department, police received a call around 8 p.m. at Twana Drive (near Chapman Avenue) and Dale Street about a “large fight.”

Although the battle was over by the time police arrived, they found a male victim on Chapman, just west of Dale. He had been shot one time in the lower right back. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Police believe the fight involved rival groups of taggers. The incident is being investigated by the GGPD Gang Unit.
