Shakespeare Orange County announces the second production of its 19th season: “The Tragedie of King Lear.”
Located at the Festival Amphitheater in Garden Grove, Shakespeare Orange County has been delighting theater-goers with outdoor Shakespeare since moving to its new home in 2004.
SOC was awarded the 2004 Arts Organization of the Year by Arts Orange County, and continues to serve the Orange County community with excellent classical programming.
The 2010 summer season is no exception. The second production of the 2010 season will culminate in Shakespeare’s most prolific and heart-breaking tragedy, “The Tragedie of King Lear.”
In the title role is Dennis Krausnick, actor, director, and co-founder of the legendary Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Massachusetts.
Rounding out an all-star cast is Ryan Shively as Edmund, Evelyn Carol Case as Goneril, Michael Nehring as Gloucester, Carl Reggiardo as Kent, and Kim Shively as Regan.
Director Thomas F. Bradac helms this epic production, placing King Lear amid pre-Christian Britain. Unique to this production is the exclusive use of the First Folio as the script.
The First Folio has long been regarded by theatre scholars as the closest and most accurate writings (free of editors and grammatical changes) we possess of William Shakespeare’s plays.
King Lear will run Sept. 2-18. All performances begin at 8 p.m., with the “Green Show” beginning at 7:15 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and dine in the Village Green Park before hand.
