Seal Beach man killed in GG Freeway

A 47-year-old man was killed after being struck by a big-rig truck on the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway Tuesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol reported that Dean Stewart of Seal Beach, an off-duty Los Angeles County firefighter, was struck by the truck just before 10 a.m. west of Springdale Street in Garden Grove.

Stewart was on foot when he was hit by the truck, which was traveling in the number three lane, said authorities. It’s unclear why he was a pedestrian on the freeway, although his vehicle was parked on the shoulder with its hood raised and the engine running.

One lane of the freeway was closed for about three hours. An investigation into the incident is underway.
