An 18-year-old Westminster man is dead after the vehicle in which he was riding plunged into a flood control channel in Westminster Wednesday afternoon.
According to Officer Van Woodson of the Westminster Police Department, the accident took place around 3 p.m. in the area of Rancho Road and Spa Drive.
Investigators say that Jared Van Grote, 18, of Huntington Beach, was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Rancho Road from Westminster Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle.
The truck rolled over, crashed through a chain-link fence and fell to the bottom of a concrete flood control channel. Also in the vehicle were Kristopher Howell, 18, of Huntington Beach and Kody Kessler, 18, of Westminster.
Kessler was pronounced dead at the scene, while Howell and Van Grote suffered injuries which were not considered life-threatening. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
