Approval was given last week by the Westminster City Council for a Tet holiday festival to be held in the parking lot of Westminster Mall next year.
On a 4-0 vote (with Tyler Diep abstaining on an unrelated item in the consent calendar), the council approved a permit request from the Vietnamese Community of Southern California to hold “OC Tet” in February 2011. The festival will be open to the public Feb. 4-6 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The mall owners have given permission for the event, to be held in the parking area between Sears and JC Penny.
Activities will include various cultural activities in observance of the Vietnamese new year, including the lion dance, martial arts demonstrations, a beauty pageant and more.
About 1,000 people are expected to attend each day.
A larger festival is held annually at Garden Grove Park. In 2011, it is scheduled for the same days as the OC Tet event in Westminster.
