Friday CIF results: Grove is sole survivor

Garden Grove 49, Godinez 14

The Argonauts won their first round CIF Southern Division playoff game at home with a big surge in the second quarter. Grove scored four times and took a 35-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Josh Webb scored three touchdowns for the Argos (10-1), and Jovani Duran threw for two scores and 157 yards. Grove will meet Woodbridge in the second round.

Loara 56, La Quinta 7

In their first CIF playoff appearance in years, the Aztecs suffered a battering at the hands of the Saxons Friday at Glover Stadium in a Southern Division contest. Nicky Luu scored the lone LQ touchdown and finished with 117 yards rushing. La Quinta finished the season with a 5-6 mark.

Woodbridge 35, Magnolia 27

The Sentinels gave the Warriors all they could handle Friday at Handel Stadium, but eventually fell. Magnolia (5-6) was led by Waseem Akbar, who threw for three touchdown passes and 245 yards, and led 27-21 at one point.

Villa Park 33, Pacifica 14

The Mariners had a second half power outage at they lost their first round CIF Southwest Division playoff game at Fred Kelly Stadium. The M’s were tied 14-all at the break, but couldn’t put up any more points as the Spartans posted the win. Pacifica (8-3) scored on a blocked punt returned by Trent Langham and a pass from Mario Nava to Joel Willis.
