The City of Westminster announced that Police Chief J. Mitchell Waller will be the Interim City Manager beginning Jan. 1, 2011, for a 90 day period. The Mayor and City Council scheduled a special Closed Session meeting for Tuesday, December 7, 2010, following the announcement of Don Lamm’s resignation as the city manager and retirement from public governance.
At the conclusion of the special meeting, the Mayor and City Council announced that Chief Waller will fill the role of City Manager during the first three months of 2011. Formal action will take place at the Dec. 15 Council Meeting.
Chief Waller has been with the City of Westminster since 1984 and was appointed Chief of Police in January 2010. Chief Waller has been instrumental in reorganizing the Westminster Police Department by implementing a new contemporary geographic policing model, known as Area Command.
Chief Waller and his staff worked to reduce the police budget by $3 million over the past two years in order to keep the city’s overall budget on track. He is the project manager for the new police facility, which is scheduled for completion in March of 2011 and is $10 million under budget.
