Prep basketball: Argos edge Cavs

Jeff Montenegro scored 22 points and Josh Webb 12 as the Garden Grove Argonauts edged Santiago 51-48 Wednesday night in a battle of the two teams expected to contend for the boys’ basketball Garden Grove League title.

Santiago was led by Daniel Lopez (14 points), Cesar Juarez (12) and Christian Montes (10). The league opener in the Cavalier gym put the Argos at 10-4 overall and Santiago at 8-6. The two teams will meet again in the Grove gym on Jan. 28

Franciscoa Bacillio led the Cavs with 10 points. Carolina Palcios and Jessica Manu each added six for Santiago.
