Former GG resident wills $30 million to CHOC

A former long-time Garden Grove resident has willed $30 million to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

According to CHOC officials, Robert Tidwell, who passed away in 2009, made the donation in his will, and the estate amount was announced by CHOC on Wednesday. Tidwell was an investment banker who reportedly visited the hospital’s main facility in Orange.

It’s the largest donation in the hospital’s history. In honor of Tidwell, the surgery center in the CHOC’s new building – still under construction – will be named after him.

CHOC officials say that $15 million will go toward completing planned buildings, with the other $15 million into a fund for a variety of pediatric medicine uses, including recruiting, clinical programs and ophthalmology.
