A brother-and-sister team of emerging comedy stars will be the celebrity grand marshals of the 2011 Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Parade.
Rico Rodriguez, who plays Manny Delgado on the hit television show, “Modern Family,” will be joined by his sister Raini, who will co-star in a new Disney film, “Prom.”
This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Sweet Sounds of Comedy.” The pair will preside over the parade, set for Saturday, May 28. The festival runs all Memorial Day weekend, May 27-30.
Among the principal sponsors of the festival are Volkswagen of Garden Grove, Time Warner Cable and the Garden Grove Journal.
The festival, which dates back from 1958, is located in the Village Green Park at Main and Euclid streets in downtown Garden Grove. The “strawberry” notion comes from the community’s agricultural past; when the festival was established, Garden Grove was still a major grower of strawberries.
As usual, the fair is open to the public with no admission charge. As many as 250,000 people attend annually, and the event has, over the years, raised many millions of dollars for non-profit organizations serving the Garden Grove area.
