Dr. KimOanh Nguyen-Lam, a Garden Grove Unified School District school board member, announced Tuesday night that she would be resigning on June 1 due to the acceptance of a leadership position in the Office of Postsecondary Education in International and Foreign Language in Washington D.C.
She made the announcement at the Board of Education meeting.
The offer for the position, said Nguyen-Lam, was not one that she sought out, but rather it was brought to her.
“This is a great opportunity to make a difference in a field that I feel passionately about,” said Nguyen-Lam.
Nguyen-Lam has been with the GGUSD on the school board since 2004 and is also the Executive Director of the California State University Systemwide Strategic Language Initiative.
Nguyen-Lam’s term with the school board will end in 2012. Until then, someone will either be appointed to fill the seat or a special election might be held, according to Alan Trudell, GGUSD’s public information officer.
“I’ve learned a lot from each one of you,” said Nguyen-Lam, “ We have a great superintendent to lead us . . . I’m proud of the staff here . . . I think we are in a great place [because of their work] and thank you for making our work easier.”
