The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove is planning in finding financial salvation in a making a deal to sell part of its campus for the development of apartments.
First problem: the city hasn’t given its approval to the proposal, or even seen a formal plan.
“They haven’t approached us at all with anything,” said Karl Hill, planning director for the City of Garden Grove. The proposed purchaser, Greenlaw Partners, would have to win approval from the city’s planning commission, and possibly the city council.
Few apartment complexes have been built in Garden Grove since the 1970s. Most high-density housing has been developed as condominiums.
The Cathedral site is located at Lewis Street and Chapman Avenue. There are single-family homes to the south and apartments to the west.
