Murder victim Tyler Sanchez

One man is in jail, another dead and a third hospitalized in critical condition after a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon in Garden Grove.

According to Lt. Jeff Nightengale of the Garden Grove Police Department, the incident took place just before 5 p.m. at Janet Street and Lampson Avenue. Police responding to reports of a shooting found two men lying on the sidewalk.

The victims, identified as Tyler Sanchez, 22, of Costa Mesa and Mauricio Marin, 24, of Garden Grove, were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where Sanchez was pronounced dead. Marin was listed as “critical” as of Tuesday.

Investigators think the incident was gang-related, and followed leads which led to the arrest Monday afternoon of Ivan Castellanos, 21, of Orange, for murder. He was arrested in Orange then brought to Garden Grove for questioning.

The suspect was later booked into Orange County Jail in Santa Ana.

“Detectives do not believe that there are any outstanding suspects and the weapon has not been recovered,” according to Lt. Nightengale.

At the murder scene, a citizen wearing gloves rendered aid to the victims, but left the scene before officers could get a statement. This person is asked to contact the GGPD at (714) 741-5800, as is anyone with information about the shootings.
