If the principal is your pal, then the Garden Grove Unified School District will have 12 new friends on Sept. 8 when the doors of the schools open.
This year there are fewer students in the district and some pretty strict rules about getting your shots before you open your textbooks.
Enrollment this year is projected at 47,974. The actual 2010-11 enrollment was 48,632.
TDAP vaccinations for whooping cough [pertussis] are a state law requirement for all incoming 7 through 12 grade students. Those who have failed to get the vaccination and provide paperwork proof of it have a 30-day grace period that will last until Oct. 7 in which they must meet the requirement.
This new mandate includes current students, new students and transfer students in both public and private schools.
According to a press release from GGUSD’s public information officer Alan Trudell, “Students in grades 2-12 enrolling in the GGUSD also must provide evidence of a negative Mantoux TB skin test, received after their fourth birthday, or evidence of a clear chest X-ray/radiology report, before attending school.”
