Yorba Linda 28, Western 7
In an Empire League battle Friday, the Pioneers lost to an unbeaten Mustang team. The game was close early, with Yorba Linda (7-0, 2-0) leading 7-0 and the half and 14-0 in the third period when the Pioneers’ Marcus Hays returned a touchdown 96 yards for a score to close within seven. But that was all the scoring for the night for Western, which dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the Empire League.
Santiago 27, La Quinta 20
The Cavaliers picked up their first win of the season with a come-from-behind victory Friday. The Aztecs led 20-7 in the third quarter, but the Cavaliers rallied with three TDs. Rancho Alamitos 33, Bolsa Grande 6
What was a tight game in the first half became a runaway in the second half as the Vaqueros defeated the Matadors Friday night in a Garden Grove League opener at Bolsa Grande Stadium. Bolsa (2-4, 0-2) was led by Jake Flores, who passed for 116 yards and one score.
Ocean View 41, Westminster 21

Segerstrom 42, Orange 6
The Golden West League opener for the Panthers was a lot like the pre-league season for Orange: disappointing. Orange scored first on a 6-yard scoring pass from Lorenzo Rosario to Jacob Brock, but that was all the points the Panthers (0-6, 0-1) could muster. Segerstrom is 4-2, 1-0.
