Tustin 51, Pacifica 24

The Mariners fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in Empire League action with the loss Thursday night at Bolsa Grande Stadium. Sophomore quarterback Nick Howard, replacing the injured Kyle Edwards, played well for Pacifica, throwing for two touchdowns and running for a third. He wound up with 247 yards passing, but was intercepted twice.

 Rancho Alamitos 40, La Quinta 0

Brett Hurley and Lincoln Faletoi led the way as the Vaqueros crushed the Aztecs in a Garden Grove League game Thursday night at Garden Grove Stadium. Hurley ran for two touchdowns and 115 yards; Faletoi threw two TD passes and totaled 121 yards in the air. The Aztecs were led by Don Tran, who ran for 62 yards. Rancho is now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the GGL. La Quinta is 2-5 and 0-2.

Santa Ana Valley 29, Magnolia 7

The Sentinels suffered their first Orange League loss of 2011 Friday night at Western High’s Handel Stadium. The lone Magnolia score came on a 78-yard kickoff return by Hector Escobar. Waseem Akbar passed for 81 yards for the Sentinels. The Sents are now 2-5 overall and 1-1 in league.
