A knife-wielding man was fatally shot by Garden Grove police Saturday night, according to Lt. Jeff Nightengale of the Garden Grove Police Department.
The incident took place around 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Strathmore and Dorada in Garden Grove. Police had been summoned to the scene with reports of a man with a knife chasing people down the street. Witnesses described the suspect as violent, breaking windows and starting a fire, according to Lt. Nightengale.
Arriving officers gave the man commands to drop the knife, but he refused, according to police. The suspect was shot and died at the scene.
The subject’s name is not being released pending notification of the family.
A joint investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the GGPD and the Orange County District Attorney’s office. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the GGPD at (714) 741-5800.
