Santa lights up the park, Dalton the tree

Garden Grove Journal

Who says there’s no Santa Claus? Hundreds of parents and kids lined up Tuesday night in Garden

Grove’s Village Green to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Kris Kringle as part of the annual Tree-Lighting Celebration.

A crowd of over 1,000 people gathered in 50-degree weather in the park at Euclid and Main streets for the fifth annual event staged by the City of Garden Grove with special help from the Garden Grove Community Foundatio

n and the 7-Eleven store at 12971 Nelson St. owned by Navdeep Bas

si.

The North Pole’s leading couple wasn’t the only attraction for the crowd. Mistress of ceremonies Kim Huy, Garden Grove’s community services director, introduced a long list of holiday performances, including dancers and singers from the Garden Grove Guardettes, the Crystal Cathedral Academy, the Colony of Performing Arts, Pacifica High School and more.

Mayor Bill Dalton and members of the Garden Grove City Council threw the switch which illuminated the 40-foot artificial Christmas tree next to the Clock Tower at the apex of Euclid and Main.

The tree will remain glowing at that location through the first week of January.
