The Westminster City Council will consider a special event permit Wednesday that may meet with some contention.
The Vietnam War Memorial in Westminster, Inc. has applied for a special event permit to hold an all-day Black April ceremony in Sid Goldstein Freedom Park on Sunday, April 29. Black April commemorates the fall of Vietnam on April 30, 1975.

Other sponsors include the Vietnamese Community and the Vietnam Veteran Association. On one hand, the event would leave April 30 open for other groups. On the other hand, a Sunday event will likely draw the biggest crowd.
In recent years, the Black April holiday has been a source of controversy in Westminster as competing groups have vied for the rights to hold public Black April ceremonies in Sid Goldstein Freedom Park, the site of Westminster’s Vietnam War memorial.
