A sub-committee, made up of Mayor Carol Warren and council member Al Ethans, has been formed to review applications in the process of appointing a member to the Stanton city council.
The committee was formed on Thursday night, Feb. 9 at a special calling of the city council.
A vacancy on the council was opened on Feb. 1 when Ed Royce Sr. announced his resignation, citing declining health. Royce had been a member of the city council since 2005, when he was appointed to fill a space left by the late Harry Dotson.
The other option to fill the space for Royce’s remainder of term was to have a special election.
According to city manager Carol Jacobs, there is a 60-period allotted in which to fill the vacancy and the deadline is April 1.
