Orangewood Academy’s girls’ basketball team advanced to the second round of the state playoffs with a win Wednesday night, setting up a rematch Saturday with the same team they defeated for the CIF Southern Section championship.
The Spartans defeated Vincent Memorial of Calexico 59-41 in the home gym in Garden Grove. OA broke open a tight contest in the third quarter, building a 14-point lead and going on to the victory.
Orangewood (26-4) was led by Jareni Nunez’ 17 points. Raquel Spencer had 13 and Stephany Olvera added 13.
The Spartans will host Providence Hall Saturday at 7 p.m. The visitors from Santa Barbara were edged 34-31 in the Division 6 title game last Saturday.
