The Stanton City Council will grow by one on Tuesday, and that body will vote whether to move toward increasing the size of the city, too.
When the council meets at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave., one of the first items on the agenda will be the swearing in of Rigoberto Ramirez, who is appointed to the council to fill the post vacated by the retirement of Ed Royce, Sr.
The larger council will later take up amendments to the general plan to “pre-designate” four county unincorporated islands and “pre-zone” them within the city’s sphere of influence.
Putting an area into a city’s “sphere” is a precursor to including it within city limits. The areas are:
• Dale/Augusta;
• Carmel/Lampson;
• Katella/Rustic;
• Mac/Syracuse.
Also on the agenda for Tuesday is the extension of an agreement that will allow Stanton Golf Center to remain at its current location until June 30, 2012. The original agreement required them to vacate the former Mary Perez School site on Cerritos Avenue.
That property is slated to be developed into a new city park, a process which may be slowed by the city’s financial problems.
