Jobless rates inch up for GG, Stanton

Garden Grove Journal

If there’s recovery in hiring, it hasn’t hit the Garden Grove-Stanton-Wesminster area yet,

Joblessness in Orange County overall held steady at 8 percent for February, but inched upwards in two local cities and stayed flat in a third, according to the latest figures from the state Employment Development Department.

Garden Grove’s unemployed went from 9.9 percent in January to 10 percent. In Stanton the figure rose from 12.8 to 12.9 percent. In Westminster, the rate held steady at 8.9 percent.

The statistics are not seasonally adjusted, which means they wouldn’t reflect regular variations in hiring such as occur during the holiday season and during the summer.

Nearby cities are estimated to have these unemployment rates:

• Anaheim: 10.3 percent;

• Cypress: 8.5 percent;

• Fountain Valley: 6.7 percent;

• Huntington Beach: 6.5 percent;

• Orange: 7.4 percent:

• Santa Ana: 12.7 percent;

• Seal Beach: 5.9 percent.

The lowest rate was Los Alamitos, with 4.4 percent.
