Pacifica’s varsity baseball team has lots of talent and is contending for the Empire League title, but there’s lots of “young” talent getting ready for future seasons. Case in point: Matt “Hootie” Sanchez,a sophomore on the Mariner junior varsity team, recently pitched a no-hitter in a 6-0 non-league win over Bountiful High School from Utah. He struck out 14 batters and walked just one. Sanchez also contributed with the bat, going 3-for-4 with a double and two singles and driving in a pair of runs. He credits catcher Chris Gilbody with helping him pitch the near-perfect game.
Who’s your Hootie?
