Purchase of more Harbor Blvd. land studied

Garden Grove Journal

Many of the most interesting items at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Garden Grove City Council will take place off-the-record.

The council, meeting as the successor agency to the now-defunct Agency for Community Development, will meet with its real property negotiators for the possible purchase of four pieces of land on Harbor Boulevard, along with two other properties on Leda Lane, located immediately west of Harbor at Lampson Avenue.

Although state law has done away with redevelopment, cities with “existing obligations” are allowed to follow through with them. Garden Grove is seeking to rebrand a stretch of Harbor Boulevard as International West, teeming with hotels, restaurants and attractions.

The closed session is intended to allow the council to give direction on the price and terms for the possible purchases.

In a related matter, the council will consider in open session a purchase agreement with Martha Reis for the acquisition of land at 12291 and 12311 Harbor Blvd., and 12312 Thackery Dr. with a total cost of $2,555,000.

Also on the agenda is a resolution opening a two-year early retirement option for city management employees.

The council meets in the Council Chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. with the closed session at 5:30 p.m. and the open session at 6:30 p.m.
