Rancho blanks GG 7-0, back in first

Rancho Alamitos took back control of the Garden Grove League baseball race Friday with a 7-0 win over Garden Grove on the Vaquero diamond.

The lopsided win put Rancho (9-2 in league) a game ahead of Grove (8-3) with just four more games on the schedule.

Ace pitcher Jim Roll threw seven scoreless innings for Rancho, winner of the last two GGL championships. The Vaqs were helped by Grove pitchers walking eight batters and hitting three.

Devin Apodaca was the offensive star for Rancho with two hits and a run batted in.

Grove had tied up the race Tuesday with a tense 5-4 win, but Friday’s victory means the Vaqueros have taken two of three from Grove.
