Mariette Hartley, an Emmy-winning actress with a career spanning stage, movies and television, will be the celebrity parade grand marshal for the 2012 Strawberry Festival in Garden Grove.
Hartley, 71, who is currently appearing in the television series “Law and Order: SVU,” will preside over the parade to be held on Saturday, May 26. The Strawberry Festival will be held at the Village Green Park at Euclid and Main streets in downtown Garden Grove May 25-28.
She’s appeared in a wide variety of roles ranging from the Alfred Hitchcock film “Marnie” to a role as the woman who marries Bill Banner, who turns into “The Incredible Hulk.” She won a Emmy for that role in 1978.
To some she is best-known for the television commercials for Polariod she did with James Garner. Their on-screen chemistry seemed so real, it was widely believed that the two were married, which they were not. ”
The theme of this year’s festival is “Honoring Our First Responders.” As such the theme grand marshal will be Capt. Stacy Gerlich, a veteran of “9/11” who is with the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The festival features carnival rides, game and crafts booths, live entertainment and a wide variety of food. It serves as a major fund-raiser for many community groups and the Strawberry Festival Association itself had donated millions of dollars to civic causes.
