Thursday sports: Local trio shutout foes

Three local teams in CIF Southern Section baseball and softball action Thursday made their 2012 playoff debuts in impressive fashion.

Pacifica’s baseball team, champs of the Empire League, blasted Redondo Union 7-0 in the Division 2 first round. Kyle Davis pitched a one-hitter and recorded his eighth win of the season.

In softball action, Garden Grove overpowered San Marcos 11-1 in the Division 4 opener. Jasmine Antunez threw a one-hitter, striking out seven batters and improving her record to 18-4. She also had three hits, a walk and two stolen bases.

Pacifica blanked Rosary 7-0 in Division 1 softball. The top-ranked Mariners got a combined effort from aces Kaley Winegarner and Kaylee Carlson, yielding just four hits. Winegarner now has a 13-0 record. Kristina Akiona, Nicole DeWitt and Erika Campbell all homered for the M’s.
