The most high-profile vote will be in Stanton on a proposed increase in the utility users tax from 5 to 7.5 percent (see story this page).
Voters in the First Supervisorial District, which includes most of Garden Grove and parts of Westminster, will chose between incumbent Janet Nguyen and former school trustee Steve Rocco. She is expected to win another term easily; her opponent has not mounted a campaign.
Redistricting has changed the boundaries of many area Congressional and state legislative districts. The new 47th Congressional District includes most of Garden Grove and Westminster, but also takes in Los Alamitos, Cypress, Long Beach and parts of Stanton.
It has a wide Democratic registration edge. Voters in that party will chose among Alan Lowenthal, Usha Shah, Jay Shah and Peter Mathews. Lowenthal, a state senator, is considered the favorite.
Candidates for the Republican nomination are Steve Foley, Gary DeLong, Steven Kuykendall and Sanford Kahn.
