The local city council elections aren’t until November but political activity is already heating up with two fund-raisers scheduled next week.
Garden Grove City Councilman Bruce Broadwater has tossed his hat into the ring for another term as mayor. He was termed out after 10 years as mayor, but seeks to return to the top spot now that current mayor Bill Dalton has nearly completed eight years in that post.
A fund-raising reception for Broadwater’s mayoral campaign will be held on Wednesday (June 27) at Doug’s Downtown Grill, 12900 Main St., Garden Grove, from 5-7 p.m.
Dexter Holland, front man for the rock band Offspring, will appear at a fund-raising event on Thursday, June 28 at the Azteca Mexican Restaurant, 12911 Main St., at 5:30 p.m. for Garden Grove City Councilman Kris Beard.
Beard was appointed to the city council in 2010 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Andrew Do. He is now seeking to be elected to a full term.
Holland will also be on hand to sign bottles of his Gringo Bandito hot sauce.

Please share that I am running for Garden Grove City Council and will have my fundraiser at the Garden Grove Community Center on July 8 from 5-8 pm. It is no cost and all are invited. Thanks!
Lord help us if Bruce “Bulldozer” Broadwater comes back to haunt us. I hope that this career politician, is not elected as our Mayor again. He has no intentions of representing the common GG resident, his alliances are to the developers he sells our city to, parcel by parcel, at great prices and many times free to them. He is no friend of preservation or to local business, unless you’ve contributed heavily to his many campaigns. I will never forget the night I pleaded with the City Council to renovate and reopen the Gem Theater on (previously historic) Main Street. His response to me after the meeting was that he didn’t understand why I wanted to preserve the theater and that he wanted to bulldoze it. He played a large part of our Main Street losing it’s Historic status and funding, by modernizing the buildings at the end. He and the rest of the current Council have been completely focussed on their pet projects, all which have been denied funding by the state, which has led us to be multi-millions in the hole, to the developers. We could have gotten a much better deal from them, where they actually paid to opena business here. Instead, we gave them the shirts off of our backs and a lot of incentives that no one else doing business in GG has got. If you really want to have the hotel developers running our city, re-elect Bulldozer and the gang.
