The man convicted of beating and stabbing a pregnant woman and her unborn child to death in Garden Grove in 1988 has been denied parole.
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s office, the parole board refused to free Arthur Richard Perez, 54. He is serving a sentence of 25 years to life in the fatal attacks on Victoria Jean Mesa, 28, and her unborn child.
Perez is being held at Chuckawalla Valley State Prison in Blythe, just west of the border with Arizona.
He was convicted of going into the woman’s home on Sept. 30, 1988, beating her with his fists, then stabbing her 38 times. He fled the scene, but police apprehended him after checking with hospitals to see if anyone had been treated for a knife wound. Perez injured himself during the attack.
