Bomb threat, robbery in West GG

Police are searching for a man wanted in the robbery of a Garden Grove bank Saturday.

According to Lt. John Keely of the Garden Grove Police Department, the suspect is described as a white male in his forties with dark hair, wearing a blue baseball cap, a beige long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

The suspect walked into the Chase Bank branch at 12555 Valley View St. in West Garden Grove and showed an employee a device that “appeared to be explosive.” He demanded money and forced the employee into the safe.

According to police, the suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and left the bank.  There was some uncertainty whether the device was left in the bank.

The bomb squad of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department was summoned. The bank and surrounding businesses were evacuated. A search of the bank did not locate the device.

Anyone who may have seen the incident is asked to call (714) 741-5800.
