It took a while — in fact, it took until the closing seconds of the game — but Magnolia posted its first victory of the season in defeating Loara High Thursday night at Glover Stadium, 28-21.
The Sentinels (1-4) were sparked by two second half touchdowns by Jamal Scott. He returned an interception 39 yards for one score, and then added what proved to be the winning tally on 32-yard run. He finished with 96 yards rushing.
Still, Magnolia had to survive a last-minute Saxon pass attempt into the end zone to seal the win. The Sents will start Orange League action Thursday visiting Santa Ana Valley at Santa Ana Stadium.
