Garden Grove wanted a strong pre-season opponent to toughen up for league play, and that’s what the Argonauts got Friday night. They were beaten 49-6 by El Toro, the county’s sixth-ranked team, at Trabuco Hills High.
A 63-yard touchdown run by Slone Masoe in the first quarter was the game highlight for Grove (3-2). Masoe would finish with 152 yards rushing. The Argonauts trailed 49-6 at halftime; the second half was scoreless.
Grove will open Garden Grove League play Thursday, hosting La Quinta (2-3).
