Garden Grove League football play starts this week and there’s already a big matchup on the agenda.
Rancho Alamitos (4-1 overall) will host Los Amigos (3-2) at Bolsa Grande Stadium on Friday. The Vaqueros, defending GGL champs, won their final pre-league contest last week, defeating Anaheim 35-14.
The Lobos rolled past Ocean View, 42-0.
La Quinta (2-3) will visit Garden Grove (3-2) tonight (Thursday). The Aztecs lost 43-0 to Saddleback, while the Argos were slammed 49-6 by El Toro (see related story this page).
On Friday, Bolsa Grande (1-4) will visit Santiago (2-3) at Garden Grove Stadium. The Matadors lost 17-7 to Calvary Chapel of Santa Ana; the Cavs fell 20-7 to Savanna.
Two locals clash tonight (Thursday) when Westminster (1-4) visits Orange (3-2) at El Modena’s Fred Kelly Stadium in a Golden West League opener. The Lions lost 28-7 to Buena Park last week, while Orange fell 48-0 to Sunny Hills.
Magnolia (1-4) opens Orange League tonight also, visiting Santa Ana Valley (3-2) at Santa Ana Stadium. The Sentinels posted their first win of the year with a 28-21 victory over Loara.
Pacifica (3-2, 1-0 in Empire League play) has a tall order on Friday, visiting Tustin (6-0, 2-0) Friday night. The Mariners smashed Kennedy 42-0 in their EL opener last week.
Western (3-3, 0-2) has another Empire League game tonight (Thursday) visiting Valencia (3-3, 1-1).
Rancho Alamitos won the GGL football crown in 2011 and is the favorite again this year.
