The Argonauts scored five touchdowns in the first quarter and went on to post the lopsided-win Thursday in the Garden Grove League opener at Garden Grove Stadium.
Grove (4-2 overall and 1-0 in GGL play) capitalized on turnovers , including two blocked punts recovered in the end zone, and a pass returned for a touchdown.
The Argos will next play Los Amigos on Thursday. La Quinta, now 2-4 and 0-1, will face Santiago next Saturday.
Westminster 13, Orange 7
In a Golden West League opener Thursday at Fred Kelly Stadium, the Lions prevailed on a 15-yard third quarter TD pass from Steven Anderson to Matt Alvarez.
Westminster (2-5,1-0) also got a score from David Fludd. The Panthers (3-3, 0-1) tallied on an 18-yard pass from Lorenzo Rosario to Nick Kunkel.
Orange was led by running back Aaron Aguilar, who rushed for 149 yards. Fludd ran for 83 for the Lions, and Anderson passed for 69.
The Panthers next visit Loara on Thursday The Lions next host Santa Ana, also on Thursday.
Valencia 48, Western 0
The Pioneers’ offense was again hard to find as Western was shut out Thursday night in an Empire League game at their home field. The hosts were unable to complete a pass and their top rusher gained 13 yards on the night.
Western (3-4, 0-3) will try to do better visiting Pacifica Thursday.
Santa Ana Valley 42, Magnolia 14
On Thursday night at Santa Ana Stadium, the Sentinels saw their one-game winning streak come to an end. The host Falcons opened up a close game by scoring the last three touchdowns.
Magnolia (1-5, 0-1) was led by Adeel Akbar, who threw for 145 yards and ran for one score, as well as Jamal Scott, who rushed for 105 yards and one TD.
Next up for the Sentinels is Century on Friday.
